Subject:Seeking panels and panelists!
Posted by:dennisthetiger.
Time:10:30 am.

As we come closer to the convention, we are carefully working on our panels and such, and doing the things we do to make a great con better. But with a four day con, we have realized something: we don't have enough stuff to fill all four days.

So, this is where you come in as a member of the furry community. If you've ever had an idea for a panel or wanted to be on a panel, this would be a great time to get involved. So in short, send me your ideas!

A few guidelines for this:

* try and keep it more or less family friendly. It's not to say we don't want adult material, but remember that there are more daytime slots than nighttime slots - and those nighttime slots, where the adult panels are, will be up against the dances and such.

* consider the camping theme this year. It is not a requirement, but it doesn't hurt to have something that is vaguely related

* Provide a description with the name of the panel. If I had a panel called "spirits", well, is it about booze or ghosts?

* come up with more than one idea! Never hurts to do that.

And most importantly...

* Send this to me at this address, not to the list. No sense in spamming the list with this.

Subject:Maple Death
Posted by:sithallanthis.
Time:9:31 pm.
Out of a fit of boredom I looked about my kitchen and spied about two pounds of honey and about two pounds of maple syrup. Inspiration hit me and I was off to clean a 1 gal jug, that done I poured first the honey, then the maple syrup followed by water than had my energizer and yeast nutrient in it... filling it up partially I madly shook it to mix and aerate it with class and waited for my K1V to rehydrate and be added for yet again another round of shaking, taking a gravity at 1.114 Shocked and slapping an airlock on it. Will the yeasties survive or die in maple goodness? I don't know, time will tell if I need to dilute and repitch but if it goes it will certainly turn out to be sweet desert worthy of the name.

Always happy to find Furs that make alcohol
I'm primarily an amateur winemaker. I make pretty good vinifera and I have a special love for making Madeira style wines. My Madeira's take about 7 years till I think they are ready for competition.
But have a great fondness for meads. In fact once a friend and I even got to the point where we did a prospectus for a meadery.

Thought I'd say hello and share a bit about myself. Depending on where you find me I'm either Sithallanthis, Shuja, or Chayak.
My lineup.
Primary 1: 5 gal traditional Mead
Primary 2: 5 gal Air
Primary 3: 1 gal Joe's Ancient Orange Mead
Primary 4: 1 gal Cyser
Primary 5: 1 gal Honey/maple mead
Secondary 1: 5 gal Cider "Badger Bane" ABV ~9%
Secondary 2: 5 gal Air
Secondary 3: 1 gal spiced cider

Why so many meads...? they take forever which is why I brew Cider as well.
I'm in Silverdale, WA if anyone is nearby.

Subject:Yet more! Lagers this time.
Posted by:drab_makyo.
Time:9:02 pm.
I've been focusing mainly on ales prior to this, not only in my recipes, but in my production, simply because I don't have the capacity to lager my beers, and I want to do things right sometimes instead of making every lager into a California Common. Anyway, two more..

Subject:Another recipe - Naming batches - Labels

The Fabulous Fox's Prickly-Wheat AleCollapse )

So.. I decided to be a big ol' furry and some how get animals into the names of my recipes. I changed both of the previous recipes up here to "Fancy Badger Mocha Rye Stout" and "Otter's Tail Toast'n'Honey Ale". For the meads, I've come up with "Picante Coyote Chile Mead" (thanks to Farrel) and "Fox's Favorite Lemon-Lavender-Rosemary Mead".

Now, I just need to commission some artists to draw labels up for each of these ^^ Since I've been working in relatively small batches so far, I've just been using a glue-stick to attach print-outs to bottles for labels, and it's worked pretty well, but I'm not sure I want to do that for a larger batch, so I might have to actually get some label paper..

OK, here's an idea - catnip metheglin. Get you soused, and for the felines amongst us, stoned as well. Thoughts? =^_^=

Subject:Formulating Recipes
Posted by:drab_makyo.
Time:3:00 pm.
Now, I haven't actually brewed any beer yet, but I've been reading up on it for.. oh.. about a year now, off and on. Recently, I've developed an intense interest in it. Yesterday and today I've been working on a recipe for an all-grain brew I'd like to try some day. If there are any beer brewers out there, I'd appreciate some input!

Toast'n'Honey Brown AleCollapse )

Edit: reduced some of the malt and some of the honey, because the projected OG was turning out to be, like, 1.062, which is much higher than I really wanted it. The new projected OG is aroudn 1.058, on the high side (I was generous in my estimations for the crystal and chocolate malts).

Well, that was fun!

I decided that, since my birthday was during FC, that I'd bring up a few different bottles of mead, just to try them out and have a little party or something. I haven't had a birthday party since I was.. four or so, but this time, I had a whole convention, all for meee! Hah hah.

So, here's what I brought, one bottle of each:
Lemon Lavender Rosemary Mead,
Maple Wine,
Coffeamel (coffee mead),
Dandelion wine.

How did they turn out? Well.. hehe.. erm..

Subject:Wither primary
Posted by:dennisthetiger.
Time:11:26 pm.

OK, so I'm starting my first mead. It's about 3#/honey to a gallon of water, using an airlock full of vodka for my primary.

After one week, it's slowing down.

Now, I'm looking at having my primary fermentation run for three months, but what do you guys do after your primary? Do you rack again for a secondary, then bottle? Bottle directly?

Subject:Happy New Year!
Posted by:drab_makyo.
Time:12:13 am.
So, while we didn't really have an Champagne this year, to go with our dinner party, we did have a good deal of mead!

To go with dinner, we had a bit of lemon-lavender-rosemary, followed by some of Redstone Meadery's Black Raspberry Nectar. For a desert 'wine' we had some sack acer (maple wine; I think it neads a name of its own). All in all, a very successful party!

Since I cleaned the house, I moved some stuff around, and now the mead has a room all of its own!

Are you a furry?

Do you like brewing? Vinting? Mead or cider making?

Then stop on by and share recipes, techniques, anecdotes, anything pertinent :o)
